Two years ago the Lord provided a way for our partner orphanage to move to a safer part of Haiti. This was a dream come true for us! See how we’re dealing with the unknowns of housing in Haiti.
Before the move
One of the reasons we didn’t think the orphanage could move is because of the increase in cost of living. Moving would require more money than we were currently paying for rent. Additionally, moving over 12 people and their things, and finding a home that would fit everyone seemed unlikely.
It was an act of faith for us to even consider the move. But God came through, as He always does. He provided the money to move, an a safe house that was within the new budget.
Housing in Haiti is complicated
There are not many places to rent, and the rent is not always fair. These two have complicated things for our partner orphanage over the years. It also reflects complications of housing in Haiti.
We are grateful for the home they have now. We praise God for making it all possible. However, that is not the end of the possible complications regarding housing.
During the summer, the landlord mentioned he wanted to sell the house. We were concerned when we got the news. We continued to pray that the Lord would change his mind and decide not to sell the house. Alternatively, we hoped He would provide us with the money to offer to purchase.
In September, the landlord once again mentioned to Pastor R. that he wanted to sell the house and that they would need to find somewhere else to live.
Thankfully, the Lord gave Pastor R. a friendship with a local police officer in the neighborhood. The officer looked at the lease. He told Pastor that it is illegal for the landlord to evict them. The landlord has no cause. As you can imagine, we were relieved to hear this!
The officer noted one caveat. The landlord could evict them from the house only if they paid rent late or not at all.
How to help the orphanage keep their house in 2025
For the last few years, we have been paying rent in partial payments. We pay one lump sum on the due date. Then, we pay the remaining amount toward the end of the month.
That is not going to be possible this year.
Rent is due January 4th. We need to send down a large amount of money. It takes time to wire the money and for them to retrieve it. Therefore, we need to have the money sent down before Christmas!
We have raised $2,500. We need your help to raise the remaining $17,500. This will allow us to pay the $20,000 in full before Christmas.
Four ways you can help support the orphanage:
- Pray that the Lord will provide the money through generous donors
- Donate to rent (in addition to what you’re already giving, or give a one-time gift to rent)
- Send this blog to your friends and family who are passionate about caring for orphans.
- Follow us on IG. Share our content on your Stories and DMs. This way, more people can learn about our organization.
