Love Like Jesus: Supporting Haiti’s Orphans

Board Member Jessie, Pastor R., and Pastor Mike in Haiti.

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.” John 13:34

Uplift Haiti, Inc. exists because we want the kids at our partner orphanage in Haiti to flourish as citizens of Haiti and Heaven. It’s important to remember why we put in so much time to raise money for the orphanage. Without that reminder, our work loses its power.

Take a few minutes to read why we are passionate about helping the kids in Haiti.

Why do we want to love one another like Jesus?

James 1:27 is the heartbeat of our organization which reads,

“Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world,”

Before following Christ, we were also orphans, separated from God the Father in this sinful world. Thankfully, Jesus died on the cross for our sins so we can have fellowship with God and eternal life with him because of the work of Jesus and his ability to defeat death!

We are excited to love the fatherless and needy and are grateful to support the kids prayerfully and financially because we are loved and cared for by a good God.

Jesus instructs us to love one another sacrificially. We can do this using the gifts and resources the Lord provides.

Let’s glorify God by loving people the way that Jesus loves them. At Uplift Haiti, Inc. we obey this command by loving our brothers and sisters in Christ in Haiti.

Ways to love one another like Jesus

We obey the command to “…to visit orphans and widows in their affliction… to love everyone as Jesus loves them as described in John 13:34, in three practical ways.

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.” John 13:34

Three ways we’re trying to obey these commands with the help of the Holy Spirit:

Praying for our brothers and sisters

We know God does all of the work to provide, protect, and woo the kids’ hearts to him. We love them by consistently praying for their safety and protection. We also pray for them to remain faithful in their walk with the Lord.

“And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy; giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.” Colossians 1:9-12

Supporting them financially

Pastor R. and his wife, A. run the orphanage and realistically, don’t have time to have another job and raise the kids. Running the orphanage and parenting 17 kids is their job. Our organization exists to joyfully support them prayerfully and financially!

“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.” Galatians 6:9-10

Visiting them in Haiti

We don’t have a specific visitation schedule. However, we do try to visit routinely to encourage each other. As brothers and sisters in Christ, it’s encouraging to spend time talking, praying, worshiping, and enjoying each other’s company.

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” Colossians 3:16

How you can love the fatherless in Haiti

As a nonprofit we run on donations, so we talk about giving A LOT.

We pray you see the heart behind our ask, and know that Pastor R. and A. are doing the Lord’s work. They are welcoming orphans into the home. God welcomed each of us into his family by sacrificially giving his son. This allows us to experience eternal life and joy with Him.

With less than two months before rent is due, the most important way you can help us is by supporting our efforts to raise the remaining $17,500. This amount is due for rent before Christmas!
