Haiti Unrest: Impact on Orphanage and How You Can Help

Haiti Viewpoint

Unless you think daily shootings, thousands of people displaced, and kids hiding in fear for their lives are “normal,” life in Haiti in the last year has been far from normal. Keep reading to see how the state of Haiti has impacted life at the orphanage.

Haiti has been up in flames and the victim of consistent bullets racing through houses and people for years. While it’s not news, the severity has increased in the last year.

The situation has escalated so much that a multinational task force was created to assist Haiti with military assistance. As we write this, Kenya has sent 400 troops to Port-au-Prince to protect citizens and stop gangs from taking over the city.

Despite the new attempts to provide peace and stability for Haitians (specifically in Port-au-Prince), the affects of weekly – if not daily – shootings, kidnappings and fires being set throughout the city has already left it’s mark.

Haitians are and have been facing difficulty finding what they need to survive, and exceptionally high prices for the items available within the country.

While prices are sky rocketing, the opportunities to earn money are dwindling.

Thankfully, the orphanage isn’t in the capital experiencing the worst of the unrest, but they aren’t exempt from feeling the effects.

In May, a family member of our partners in Haiti was shot and killed. They still have family that are homeless because their house was burned a few months ago.

One of our board members has family in Haiti who was forced into the unknown: the unknown of safety, food, and if they will have a place to live.

Why are we mentioning this if our partners aren’t experiencing it firsthand?

Because we care about the entire country of Haiti!

We want Haiti to have a redemption story, post destruction and devastation. One that glorifies God and the love of God is felt and seen throughout the entire country!

We want the country to experience freedom and safety.

We want Haiti to thrive!

God weeps at the destruction that man causes as a result of the fall of humanity caused by sin.

But, as Christians, we can and should, first come alongside them in prayer! God is the one who can change hearts and situations if it is His will. So, we will continue to pray expectantly that He will give Haiti a resurrection story on this side of Heaven. That those destroying the land will fall to their knees in repentance to the Lord.

Another way we support the orphanage, and invest in the future of Haiti, is by partnering financially. You can join us too! Each donation helps us to provide for the kids to support their future wellbeing.

Our prayer for the kids in the orphanage is that they can go to school and be discipled by the adults at the orphanage. We pray that the power of the Holy Spirit and the Grace of God will change Haiti.

We pray that they will flourish as citizens of Haiti and Heaven!

Join us in prayer today!
