Haiti is Shook Again

OMFCA outside after earthquake

Earthquakes: Then & Now

Haiti is no stranger to the impact of natural disasters, with a history of 6 earthquakes and hurricanes hitting the island in just the last 10 years!

The most well known earthquake is the 2010 earthquake that hit Haiti with a magnitude of 7.0, rocking the island and leaving destruction, injuries and lives lost all over the country. While rebuilding has taken place since 2010, there are many chronic issues that still plague the country as a result of that earthquake. The 2021 earthquake was no different: with a similar magnitude and hours of aftershocks, Haitians slept outside in fear of further structural damage as they awaited the end.

Most Common Issues from the Earthquakes:

  1. People are displaced
  2. Children lost their parents
  3. No access to safe drinking water
  4. Higher risk of violence and gender-based violence (Haiti has been experiencing heightened gang violence in the last 2 years)
  5. 94/255 schools in Haiti were reported damaged (2021)

These are just a handful of the issues that Haitians are facing as a result of the 2010 earthquake and more recently the 2021 earthquake, which compounded the issues they were facing prior to these natural disasters**.

OMFCA is not spared from these difficulties, and as partners on mission, we are walking with them during this difficult time. In August, OMFCA accepted 5 new children into the home after being approached by the Haitian government to accept recently orphaned children as a result of the earthquake in August.

While we have been operating on a thin budget, OMFCA felt a burden to accept these children into the home, and Uplift agreed after much prayer and consideration! We are excited to welcome these children into the home, and now we need your help more than ever!

Here are the major expenses we are facing and need donors for:

  1. Monthly Expenses went up to $4,000/month
  2. Salaries for OMFCA went up to $900/month
  3. Education Expenses for the new children is $6,000
  4. Medical evaluations are $1,500
  5. Additional Beds are $1,000
  6. Rent (due in December) is $8,500
We need monthly donors to support the monthly expenses each month!
We need individual donors to give one-time special donations to help (or entirely) cover the additional expenses!
We need churches, community organizations, bible studies, book clubs, etc. to partner with us and financially support a ministry need at OMFCA through monthly donations or donating the amount in full!

We know that the Lord provides for his children, and we are leaning on that truth as we walk hand-in-hand with Pastor Romain and Agnes at OMFCA. We ask you to prayerfully consider partnering with us in this journey in caring for our brothers and sisters in Haiti!
