The effects of the catastrophic earthquake in Haiti in 2010
On January 10, 2010 thousands of Haitians, including kids, were left without homes, guaranteed safety, and food. People’s future seemed dim, and for many, it wasn’t guaranteed.
A year later not much had changed. Kids were still on the street, homeless.
Pastor R witnessed this for a year and was left heartbroken. He couldn’t believe there was no one to help them. Pastor knew that the Lord was calling him to be a father to them.
Uplift Haiti, Inc. was created to support the orphanage in Haiti
Uplift Haiti, Inc. was created to support the orphanage in Haiti and care for the kids in the home. They’re raising them, caring for them every day, and making sure they have what they need. We get to be part of their story by inviting more people to join in the work God’s already doing. You can help the kids focus on being kids by supporting the orphanage prayerfully and financially.
Before Uplift Haiti, Inc. was created, the local church was supporting them starting in 2018. They were giving monthly and occasional special gifts for items like beds, and transportation.

Uplift Haiti, Inc. was created in 2020 to formalize an existing partnership with Pastor R and his wife in Haiti. We created the nonprofit to increase our reach and formalize our commitment to supporting them.
Your donation supports the kids’ future in Haiti
In addition to creating a non-profit in the United States, Pastor R applied to get the orphanage officially recognized by the Haitian government. This is a testament of the work they’re doing there because it’s not easy to be recognized as an orphanage.
What they had to do to get the orphanage recognized in Haiti:
- Multiple facility inspections by the Haitian equivalent of a Children’s welfare ministry. This is to verify the children are getting proper nutrition, education & housing.
- Pastor R had to create a first aid medical area within the home that is stocked with supplies
- Health & wellness checkups by the doctor
- Each child had a private interview with the inspector to verify there was no abuse present
- Approval by a judge
- Jesse was required to go to Haiti to personally meet the lawyer that was setting up the paperwork for the orphanage to verify that he and the were involved
Once Uplift Haiti, Inc. was given non-profit status in the U.S. and the orphanage was recognized in Haiti, we were able to start fundraising.
